Animal and human interaction has been shown to decrease cortisol levels, which is a stress-related hormone. Additional studies found that animals can reduce feelings of loneliness while boosting your mood and perception of social support.
The increasing popularity of animal therapy is backed by scientific studies that show relief from anxiety and loneliness. There are many types of animals that can help soothe fear and anxiety among people of all ages!
In one particular study, a group of adults who identified as “stressed out” were asked to pet a live rabbit and turtle, or their toy forms. The study found petting the toys to have no effect while stroking a live animal regardless of its texture brought anxiety relief. The results help true for individuals who reported having a general liking or disliking of animals prior to the study.
All in all, combining pets and coffee together is a recipe for full happiness.

Boris & Horton is a dog-friendly cafe and community space located in New York. Customers are welcome to bring their dogs inside. In addition, great coffee, beer, wine, and snacks are served. Boris & Horton also hosts adoption events and fundraisers with the hope that many dogs will find their forever homes.
Boris was born in Puerto Rico and was found roaming the beaches. He was rescued by DCluckydog in the summer of 2016 and has been a loving member of the family ever since. He is a very unique-looking pit bull terrier mix with shaggy hair.
Horton hails from Houston which is actually his given name. He is a 12-pound mystery breed with a ton of personality and an adorable snaggletooth. He’s also a shameless food beggar and his favorite treat is string cheese.
